Physics and signal processing, on your project

I work with hi-fi and pro-audio manufacturers who need acoustic or DSP expertise for a specific project: as a subcontractor on a defined specification, or alongside your own engineering team.

I am a physicist (PhD in condensed matter physics), and I bring that background to acoustic and DSP problems: modelling, simulation and careful measurement. The tools I use are the ones I build for LinFIR: measurement, FIR and IIR filter design, directivity analysis. When a project needs something they don’t do yet, I write it.

Services

Acoustic design

Loudspeaker design to your specification: driver selection, enclosure and loading, crossover strategy and target directivity.

Waveguide design

Waveguides for dome tweeters and compression drivers, optimised with BEM simulations and optimisation algorithms to reach a target directivity.

DSP tuning

FIR and IIR crossovers, linear-phase filtering, driver and system correction, time alignment: getting the best out of your DSP platform.

Production-line automation

If you have a measurement bench on your production line, I can deliver a complete software pipeline: measurement, filter generation and time alignment for each unit, with no human intervention. It is built on the LinFIR engine.

Simulation tools

Custom acoustic simulation software for your design team, so your engineers can explore designs before building prototypes.

How a project runs

1. Your specification

You describe the product, the targets and the constraints: size, drivers, budget, DSP platform, deadlines.

2. A proposal

I reply with an approach, what I will deliver, and a quote. No commitment until you agree.

3. Delivery

Designs, filters, software or reports, with measurements to back them up and the support to integrate them.

Discuss a project
